Where do I even begin? First of all, I would like to send out my deepest apologies for not posting in OVER 2 WEEKS! What kind of blogger am I? Shameful...that's what it is. But, if there is ANY explanation....it would be that I have been in Colorado for the past week....and that is where the story begins.
We started out to Colorado on Saturday, March 21st. All was going as planned. Everyone got there safely (there were 8 of us), and in a rather timely manner too! Three of us girls had never been skiing before, so we had planned on going to ski school. But, being the natural-born athletes we are (sarcasm), we decided to save the money and just have the guys teach us. It worked out well, and by the end I was skiing some blues and the other 2 girls even ventured onto some blacks! (As we figured out, I am not the most daring person that ever lived! Ha!)
But, I will say that on the last run of the 3rd day, I almost disowned my sister-in-law, Erin. :) She said, "Hey we haven't been down The Wild Irishman yet....let's try it!" So, Kara and I agreed...and when we got 1/3 of the way down it (you know, the point where there is no turning back)...this is (pretty much)what we saw:
YEP....the steepest side of the mountain! And it was pure ICE! But, since we don't have any REAL documented proof of what it actually looked like or us even on it, I'm going to guess we probably looked something like this skiing down it:
When we finally got to the bottom, this was my text message that I sent to Del:
"Almost died...thinking about disowning Erin as my sister-in-law...
and the Wild Irishman is definitely a black diamond mislabeled as a blue!"
Ha! Ha! We had a good laugh after it was all said and done...but you better believe that I will NEVER be going down the Wild Irishman again.
So, that is really where the trip should have ended. We should have ended with 3 days of skiing and having a really great time....because at 2:30A.M. of the 4th day was when it all started going downhill!
I woke up at 2:30A.M., itching, sweating, and really couldn't go back to sleep. I finally got up at 6:30 and felt some bumps on my shoulder. When I actually looked at them in the mirror, I instantly freaked out and went to get Del. I thought for a moment I might be dying! Turns out it just LOOKED like the WORST case of acne you had ever seen....but why on my shoulders? Anyway, I didn't go skiing the 4th morning because I just didn't feel like myself....so I did what any good "disabled skier" would do....take pictures of the cabin!
Cute, huh?
Anyway, when everyone got back to the cabin for lunch, 2 things were wierd....1-my "disease" had spread all over my back, so Del decided to get me an appointment with a doctor, and 2-we were missing one member of our group, Tim. So, Del and I headed off to the doctor, and to make a long story short, it turned out that I had caught an infection from the HOT TUB!!
What are the chances! I like to call it "Hot Tub Leprosy", but it is technically called Folliculitis (an infection of the hair follicles). I mean, really?! And just on my shoulders and back? Wierd!!! I would love to show you pictures, but Del said that it was too gross...so I will honor his wishes.
While we were at Target, picking up my prescription, we get a call from Erin, asking if we can pick up some Extra-Strength Tylenol, because Tim has a CONCUSSION!! Yep, that's right....our missing group member was found by the ski patrol, with his goggles and face all busted up, and he can't remember what happened! So, we rush back to the cabin to find out that he had gone to the Terrain Park, and had gone off a ski jump and doesn't remember anything after that! Talk about a bad 4th day! You see now why I said that we should have left after the 3rd day!?
...but don't worry, the story gets even better!
Since we didn't leave until the morning of the 5TH DAY, we OF COURSE get stuck driving right into the biggest snow storm OF THE SEASON! This is what it looked like from Keystone to Denver:
Pretty much a total White Out!! There were points where we couldn't even see the hood of the car!
After 8 hours of driving, we made it to Denver. Yep, it was a trip that should have taken us 1 1/2 hours, but instead took us 8! We ended up in Golden, CO to stay the night. We drove around to try and find somewhere we could eat dinner and hang out because there wasn't anything to do at the motel. Then...it appeared! Pelfrey's Restaurant! The perfect place for us to hang out! On their marquee, it even said, "Blizzard Party Inside"! Needless to say, we spend the next 5 hours there!
The next morning, we woke up and spent the next 21 hours driving home! Woah! Long trip. But in the end we are home, safe and sound....and with a lot of fun memories. Well, 7 of us do....Tim is missing a few! Ha!

Chels,
When I saw the very first picture on this post, I nearly peed my pants. I have a very similar experience in my ski diary and it took me back to my emotional breakdown on the slopes. I'm sure people did not know I was a Christian that day. I definitely am sure that the 2nd picture is exactly what you guys looked like as you dominated the Wild Irishman.
Glad you are alive!
J
